The Voice of the Prearranged Car Service Industry Worldwide
Do You Think Before You “App?”
60-Second PSA from National Limousine Association Educates You on Why it’s Important in The World of Digital Hitchhiking
PR Newswire, New York, NY (May 11, 2015) – The National Limousine Association (www.limo.org) has produced a new on-air public service announcement to educate the industry and public at large about the risks and hazards of transportation network companies (TNCs).
The video titled “Digital Hitchhiking: Think Before You App!” is an extension of the NLA’s ongoing Ride Responsibly™ (www.rideresponsibly.org) initiative to improve passenger safety, education and awareness for anyone using a ride-hailing based car service such as Uber, Lyft, Sidecar or Whisk. It urges consumers to arm themselves with the necessary tools to Ride Responsibly™ and make smart choices when it comes to their safety. Convenience comes at a cost, but that cost should never be your safety. A survey conducted by Harris Poll on behalf of the NLA in February 2015 encompassed approximately 2,000 adults ages 18+, illustrates consumer concerns over the lack of background checks, insurance protocol and drug testing currently in place with ride-hailing car services.
The survey uncovers Americans’ opinion of the ride-hailing app car service industry. The alarming results indicate:
“Our PSAs are a response to consumers’ concerns. We want to work with our industry and the public to keep our roads safe,” said Gary Buffo, President of the NLA. “We strive to always improve passenger protection, and this campaign emphasizes the educational efforts necessary to reach that goal.”
The new announcements mirror the message from NLA’s Ride Responsibly™ campaign that launched earlier in 2015, featuring mantras such as “Think Before You App!” reminding passengers to stay informed while using electronic app based services. This new video PSA, which will air on local and national broadcast television stations, brings the campaign to life by demonstrating the dangers of not being aware of your rights.
The survey was conducted online within the United States by Harris Poll on behalf of NLA from February 11 to February 13, 2015 among 2,026 participants, adult ages 18-years and older. The online survey is not based on a probability sample and therefore no estimate of theoretical sampling error can be calculated. For complete survey methodology, including weighting variables, please contact [email protected].

ABOUT RIDE RESPONSIBLY™:
The Ride Responsibly™ campaign is an unprecedented effort to bridge an industry-wide gap between the rights of passengers and the responsibilities of service providers. The campaign will establish best safety practices for prearranged car services and transportation network companies (TNCs), which include ride-hailing app car services, such as Lyft, Sidecar, Uber and Whisk. This initiative by the National Limousine Association is designed to help address growing public concern and provide a forum for all to voice their views on the ground transportation industry. The program will focus on educating both service providers and the public about regulations, legislation and best practices within the industry. The goal is to empower and inform the public at large, and drivers and operators alike with the necessary tools to Ride Responsibly™.

Rick Versace, president of the Florida Limousine Association (FLA), reported on Wednesday, April 29th:
1) Today the House of Representatives adjourned the session. HB 817 the TNC bill was pulled from the floor, so no vote was taken resulting in all bills not being passed regarding this issue.
This is a victory for us in the state as an industry. Now the TNC's will still have to abide by local rules and regulations.
This was a tremendous victory for our industry and we need to thank everyone who supported our effort, your emails, phone calls and financial contributions really made the difference. We owe a great debt of gratitude to our Lobbying team and Public Relations team for the outstanding job they did this legislative session.
2) The Broward Board of County Commissioners voted to enact new reasonable, common-sense regulations for TNC companies yesterday. These rules include requiring all drivers to get a Level II Background check, and follow the state law regarding insuring their vehicles with real 24/7 commercial liability insurance. These rules will assure that transportation network companies abide by reasonable regulations that will ensure the safety of the residents and visitors of Broward County.
An Uber Spokesperson said the rules are too onerous and would drive them out of Broward County but they will continue to try to negotiate with the county.

Read comments from the 2015 scholarship winners on their personal experiences during this year's International LCT Show.
"I felt a sense of community amongst my colleagues at my first LCT show. The experienced owners took time to offer invaluable words of wisdom and encouragement and the suppliers were patient in explaining their products and services. I am extremely proud to be a new NLA member and look forward to many, many years of our mutual success!"
"One of the main key things that stuck with us and we have already started implementing is getting our back office in order. That is key and very vital to any operationght direction to clean some things up that we may have that wants to grow and become more efficient in their operation. We've already have taken steps in the ri been lacking in before attending the show. We really loved the experience of the showroom floor to get up close and personal with a lot of the newer vehicles and to see where the market is headed in the near future."
"It was an honor and pleasure to be part of the NLA and also to attend the LCT Show. In my honest opinion, everyone who is in the limousine industry should attend the show because it is an eye opener. I was able to network and meet so many like-minded professionals and to exchange information and build relationships is priceless. The educational sessions are a must for everyone to attend and educate yourself with better tools and knowledge to grow your business in the right direction. The exhibit hall is a treat to watch and you get to walk around in the hall and see what vendors are offering in the limo industry. You are able to get information about Limo Software, fleet vendors of every kind from sedan to big luxury buses and vans and also what technology is available for us in the limousine Industry."
"I want to express my extreme gratitude to the committee for selecting me as a scholarship winner this year. Without your graciousness I would not have been able to attend otherwise. The show was very informative and educational for me as a young operator. Truly believe that what I learned and the contacts I made will be beneficial."

HERE IS WHAT SUCCESFUL OPERATORS ARE SAYING ABOUT THE NLA DIRECTORY OF MEMBERS
“The NLA directory is to NLA members like the Bible is to believers; you really can’t live without it.”
-Ron Stein, Exclusive Sedan Service
“We all meet people at the shows, make small talk and exchange business cards that come home in a pile. When I get home I organize my visits by stapling the business cards that I have collected into the NLA Directory of Members at the top of the page that lists the company. Because Company Car only does business with NLA members the book is filled with members who have impressed me personally but have shown that they are professionals as well. If you would like an opportunity to do business with my company start by being in the book.”
-Steve Qua, Company Car and Limousine
“CLT Express and SC Express have always been members of the NLA and as a result been in the directory. It is a great resource for finding affiliates and for affiliates to find us. I have several affiliates now that originally found us in the NLA directory and gave us a chance. Our NLA membership and listing in the directory have been invaluable”.
-Laura B. Canady, CLT Express Transportation.
